Gold Key Comics the art of George Wilson
Seeing George Wilsons amazing art for the first issue of Space Family Robinson amongst the Gold Key covers from the previous post on Del Connell, I thought Ild post some original art by Wilson. Wilsons superbly crafted acrylic paintings often had to be done in a hurry, but they graced many paperbacks and magazine covers beautifully. For Gold Key he painted hundreds of covers for comic book series like Turok, The Twilight Zone, The Phantom, The Outer Limits and many, many more. Sadly, mr. Wilson is no longer with us, he died on December 7, 1999. The original artwork scans are pretty big, if you click on them you get to see more detail!
Below you can see his artwork for Del Connells Space Family Robinson issue 5 from December 1963, which printed the story The Mist of Delusion with art by Dan Spiegle. Gaylord Dubois took over the writing from issue 8. He created more than 3000 comic stories during his lifetime, mostly with licensed characters, but he also came up with many new and original creations of his own: Turok, Son of Stone, Brothers of the Spear and Jungle Twins.
Heres Wilsons artwork for the cover of Space Family Robinson issue 22, published by Western in June 1967. It held the Space Family Robinson story called Operation Timeshift and, as often with this series, another episode of Captain Venture in the back.
Heres the artwork to issue no. 43 from October 1975. It featured the story Trapped in Space. This month, Darkhorse has begun reprinting the complete series of Space Family Robinson and released the first hardcover volume, including George Wilsons covers. The second volume is planned for September.
Heres another favorite of mine: Traveling through time to fight the Nazis yet again! Cover art by George Wilson for Time Tunnel #2 from 1967. The comic by Tom Gill was based on the Irwin Allens TV series from 1966 starring James Darren and Robert Colbert as two scientists that build a secret installation for the government beneath the Nevada desert which allows them to travel through time. While testing they get stuck and every episode they go somewhere else, trying to escape home. Unfortunately, the comic book series only had two issues.

The Art of Sex Appeal with Joe Benitez
Hot off the press, the first issue of Lady Mechanika, the brand new series from Michael Turners Aspen Comics sold out instantly and is in need of a second printing. Written and drawn by Joe Benitez, his creator owned new title fits perfectly with Aspens comic book line up, along with Turners Fathom and Soulfire.
The Gnomon Workshop, known for its in-depth tutorials and DVDs on 3D modeling and sculpting, started a new series of instructional DVDs on comic artwork with celebrated artists like David Finch, Alvin Lee and recently, Phil Noto.
Beside penciling, comic book colorist Steve Firchow shared his insights on digital coloring using Adobe Photoshop while inker Joe Weems tackled non-digital inking comicbook artwork.
Joining the ranks now, is Joe Benitez. In 20 chapters, Joe shows how he captures allure and sex appeal in his work. His How-to title contains 150 minutes of footage and can be downloaded from the Gnomon site. alternatively, if you prefer, there is the possibility to purchase it as a DVD.

Naugty Dog unveils The Last of Us
Resembling Cormac McCarthys The Road (if you havent read the novel you will no doubt be familiar with John Hillcoats successful movie starring Viggo Mortenson) Its a survival/horror game in which most of modern civilisation has been wiped out by a virus. Main characters Joel and Ellie are trying to survive this post-Apocalyptic world in the abandoned cities of what remains of the United States, fighting off zombie-mutants and looking for anything that will help them make it through another day.
Ellie, described as a brave teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, looks supsiciously like Ellen Page to me, but shes really voiced by actress Ashley Johnson, also responsible for voicing the character Gwen Tennyson on Cartoon Networks succesfull Ben10 animated series.
Creative director Neil Druckmann revealed on Twitter that the game has been in development for the last two years already. If you really dig it, you can hook up with the Playstation store now and get some early goodies (avatars) that have been made available for your console.No doubt that this game will push the PS3 to the limits to deliver the best graphics possible to date and will become NDs next franchise in 2012. The trailer for The Last of Us was first revealed this weekend at the Spike Game Awards and can now be viewed online. Check it out here below, or visit the official site.

The open world of Far Cry 3
The game recently received seven nominations for a D.I.C.E. Award from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. Far Cry 3 was nominated for Game of the Year, Action Game of the Year, Outstanding Character Performance for Vaas Montenegro, and Outstanding Achievement awards for Game Direction, Animation, Art Direction, and Original Music Composition. The 16th annual D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony will be held at The Joint in the Hard Rock Casino and Resort Las Vegas on February 7th beginning at 7 PM PST. You can also view it live on MachinimaLIVE.com
